Visitors and Classroom Interruptions
Classroom interruptions are kept to a minimum. We ask that you please inform your child if you are dropping off a lunch for them to pick up their lunch from the main office. To reduce interruptions to class instruction please attempt to drop off their lunch prior to their recess time. The classroom will not be called and/or interrupted for snack and lunch deliveries.
Leaving School Grounds During School Hours
If a pupil is leaving during school hours, the parent/guardian must come to the office with a picture ID to sign out the child. A child will not be released to anyone other than the parents unless otherwise designated on their emergency card (Designated persons must be 18 Years or Older). This is very important for the safety and welfare of all pupils.
Additionally, when students are picked up early from school, this is considered an Early Leave in our attendance system. When students are picked up early they are missing valuable instruction in the classroom. Please note that when you come to pick up your child early, we are not able to accommodate a request for them to wait in the office to be picked up. When you arrive, we will ask that you complete the Blue Dismissal slip and we will call the classroom for your child. This may take a few minutes as they will be packing up their materials for the day.
Medications
Riverside Drive Charter has a nurse on staff one day a week. If your child needs medication, you must file a medication form with the Main Office. You must provide the prescription information and a supply of the medication in its original, pharmacy container. The Main Office staff will then supervise that the medication is taken as prescribed. Children are not allowed to bring or take ANY type of prescribed or over-the-counter medications while at school. The medication form can be found here. Please note this form must be renewed each year. The office staff will not administer any medications if there is not a current medication form on file.
Absences and Illness: School attendance is vital to student achievement. Students who develop a pattern of good attendance are more likely to be successful both academically and socially. Please call the office at (818) 990-4525 to report your child’s absence and upon returning to school, please provide a note explaining the absence. If the absence was due to illness, state the type of illness. Please keep your child home if you suspect he or she has an infectious condition.
